Laura is an Educational Researcher and a native Spanish speaker from Spain. She is the Founder and Co-CEO of Immersion Montessori School, where she has developed the curriculum, teacher training program, and leads various research projects focusing on second-language acquisition and the concept of flow within the Montessori classroom.

 

Previously, Laura served as the Lead Faculty Associate at Colorado State University – Global Campus, where she led the Mathematics Department, mentored department faculty, and supervised Denver Public School District high school teachers in their online math courses. In addition, she has developed more than 30 graduate and undergraduate math courses at various universities.

 

Laura’s academic background includes a B.A. in Mathematics from Cornell University and a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Columbia University, where she researched how positive psychological constructs can help create a less-anxious learning environment for students. Her published work integrates flow and problem-solving research in the Developmental Mathematics classroom. Currently, her research extends to second-language acquisition in Early Childhood Education, examining how the Montessori prepared environment balances challenge and skill to facilitate flow among children ages two through six.

 

With over 20 years of teaching experience, Laura’s career spans primary Montessori education for bilingual student populations to graduate-level mathematics instruction. She also brings 15 years of curriculum development expertise and has served as an Educational Consultant for various international graduate programs. In addition, she has spent 10 years in academic leadership positions, including managing several private schools.
